Needless to say, Dietrich is not the brains of the operation. In his new gig, he spends his day posing as a gargoyle on the parapet of Raklev Castle, waiting for a window of opportunity to sneak into Professor Erikson's actual window and strangle the secret formula out of him (he's been performing anti-gravity experiments in his castle laboratory).
We'll find out later his name is Dietrich, and in a previous life he was known as "Norway's greatest acrobatic dwarf." (I understand he currently doesn't even rank among the top ten, at least in Norway.) That's not a statue at all, but a person disguised as a gargoyle. If you guessed the one on the far right, congratulations. The castle is decorated with seven gargoyle statues, and one of these gargoyles is not like the other. In The House of Seven Gargoyles (Episode 23, 1965) the Quest clan visits Raklev Castle, a dark old estate that sits on the banks of "the deepest and most mysterious fjord in Norway." The castle is rumored to be haunted by the centuries old ghost of Baron Raklev himself. One episode stands out for its uniquely creepy setting and a most unusual antagonist. Or this shapeless electrified monster that could only be seen by splattering it with bags of paint.
Quest, a sentry wakes up, and the entire tribe is quickly roused.Jonny Quest is probably best remembered for its action and intrigue, but the show often featured encounters with some pretty frightening creatures, whether it was a monstrous spider from a science experiment.Ī stalking, spider-like robot that could zap your brain with an electrified tether. So Race sneaks back at night, and manages to free Emil Hartmann. But it doesn't work - the Indians aren't scared enough of their water god to risk angering their fire god.
Race makes a few engineering changes to the canoes, then dyes himself purple and pretends to be the water god - if he can distract the Indians long enough, he can free the two scientists. But why were they taken? The answer is a sinister one - the men are to be sacrified to the Po Ho fire god in a gruesome ceremony that involves the victims, a pit, and a whole lot of hot coals. Hartmann disappeared, he, too, is taken! Now Race and the boys must find both men. The Quest team arrives at the Hartmann's home, determined to recover the doctor. Emil Hartmann, an anthropologist, is studying the Po Ho Indians when they capture him.
